USS Savannah Makes Triumphant Return to Sihanoukville, Cambodia After Eight-Year Hiatus
The visit of the U.S. Navy’s USS Savannah to Cambodia marks a significant step in the deepening ties between the United States and Cambodia, reflecting their enduring historical and cultural connections.
“Thank you to the people of Sihanoukville for their warm welcome to the Savannah team,” expressed Cmdr. Dan Sledz, the commanding officer of the Savannah. “Cambodia is a key partner for us in the region, and this port visit provides us an important opportunity to meet with local leaders.”
Notably, this marks the first visit by a U.S. Navy ship to the Kingdom of Cambodia in eight years, underscoring the evolving defense and diplomatic ties between the two nations.
As the forward-deployed Destroyer Squadron (DESRON) in Southeast Asia, DESRON 7 plays a critical role as the primary tactical and operational commander for littoral combat ships based in Singapore. Their mission emphasizes strengthening partnerships and ensuring stability in the region.
The U.S. 7th Fleet, recognized as the largest forward-deployed numbered fleet of the Navy, regularly engages with allies and regional partners to support a free and open Indo-Pacific region, aligning with broader strategic goals.
