NAVAIR Unveils Crucial V-22 Bulletin and Interim Flight Clearance
The U.S. Navy has announced that certain V-22 aircraft with Propulsor Reduction Gearboxes (PRGBs), which meet or surpass a specific flight-hour threshold, will be cleared to resume flights. This decision aligns with guidelines set in the March 2024 interim flight clearance (IFC).
For aircraft with PRGBs below this flight-hour limit, new risk mitigation controls have been introduced. These measures will ensure safety until their PRGBs are either upgraded or exceed the established threshold.
The initiative was a collaborative effort involving NAVAIR, the Navy, Air Force Special Operations Command, and the Marine Corps to apply the bulletin and IFC. However, in consideration of operational security, specific details such as the exact flight-hour threshold and the number of affected aircraft will remain confidential.
NAVAIR emphasizes its commitment to transparency and safety in all V-22 operations. The V-22 is a pivotal asset in the United States’ defense strategy, and ensuring its readiness is crucial for national security interests.
Constant monitoring of data and trends across all aircraft platforms helps NAVAIR provide service members with the safest and most reliable aircraft available.
