Chief of Naval Operations to Commission New ‘Strike Group’ Mixed-Reality Experience at Navy Memorial Event - THURSDAY

The United States Navy has announced that it surpassed its 2024 recruitment goals, successfully enlisting 40,978 new sailors, just short of the 46,000 target. This achievement has been warmly welcomed by Navy leadership as the service continues its robust participation in Fleet Weeks across the nation, bringing the American public closer to their naval forces.

A new initiative, the ‘Strike Group’ experience, has been launched to highlight the Navy’s diverse STEM career opportunities. It offers an engaging glimpse into various fields, from nuclear engineering and aviation to special warfare and medicine. This initiative is delivered through groundbreaking mixed reality, providing an immersive, hands-on exploration of the cutting-edge technology and teamwork central to Navy roles.

According to Navy sources, one of the experiences, ‘All Hands,’ challenges participants on the virtual flight deck of an aircraft carrier. Participants will don a Meta Quest 3 headset and dive into a multi-role operation, experiencing tasks ranging from fueling to flying helicopters.

Other interactive experiences include ‘Support,’ which showcases the Navy’s humanitarian missions globally, and ‘Fly,’ a full-motion flight simulator putting players in the cockpit of an F-35C Lightning II. In ‘Dive,’ participants explore underwater construction tasks necessary for storm damage repairs, while ‘Seek’ offers a submarine mission simulating Arctic conditions.

‘Achieve’ allows participants to take a personality quiz to find suitable Navy roles, culminating in an AI-generated depiction of themselves in their matched role. Finally, ‘Train’ offers a Navy SEAL training experience that tests participants’ physical and mental endurance.

The ‘Strike Group’ name draws from the Navy’s carrier strike groups, intended to mirror the high-tech and collaborative nature of these military formations. Each carrier strike group consists of an aircraft carrier, supported by an air wing, cruisers, and destroyers, aiding in extending the Navy’s global reach and capacity.

An upcoming event will officially mark the commencement of the ‘Strike Group’ initiative and commend the Navy’s exceptional recruiters of the year on December 12, 2024, at the U.S. Navy Memorial in Washington, DC. The event is set to include a variety of activities and is open to the public.
