Pacific Partnership, Pacific Angel Come Together to Strengthen Disaster Preparedness in Quang Ngai, Vietnam

News Article

Pacific Partnership and Pacific Angel have embarked on a significant mission in Vietnam to bolster disaster response and international cooperation. The operation spans from August 19 to 31.

Around 200 participants, including forces from Australia, the UK, Chile, Japan, and the U.S., will converge in Quang Ngai for the PP24-2 and PA24-3 programs. The mission’s opening ceremony on August 20 will feature the U.S. Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City.

“This year’s mission underscores our enduring friendship and our strides in disaster response, medicine, and education,” said U.S. Consul General Susan Burns. “Our shared past makes this progress toward a brighter future even more significant.”

The humanitarian mission will enhance disaster response, provide assistance, and foster mutual understanding. Training sessions will be held in Quang Ngai hospitals on mass casualty incidents, surgeries, public health, and infectious diseases. Officials will also discuss forest fire prevention, coastal erosion, and natural disaster management, highlighted by a site survey of the Nghia An anti-erosion embankment.

“Our leaders recognize the crucial role of collaboration to bolster community resilience, particularly through disaster preparedness,” noted U.S. Navy Capt. Daniel Keeler, PP24-2 mission commander. “This mission aims to enhance coordination on global issues to promote peace and development.”

Construction efforts will involve repairs and renovations at Tinh Minh Kindergarten, Nghia Lo Medical Station, Tinh Khe Elementary School, and Tinh Khe Medical Station. These improvements are designed to bolster community infrastructure. The mission will also promote community engagement through English and music exchanges with local students, fostering cultural interactions.

“We are committed to working with host nations to enhance capacity and readiness,” said U.S. Air Force Maj. Bradley Emmett, PA24-3 mission commander. “These missions and exchanges help maintain peace and stability in the region. We anticipate productive collaborations in the coming weeks.”

The PP24-2 and PA24-3 mission marks a milestone in U.S.-Vietnam relations, reinforcing the bilateral ties nearly a year after upgrading to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. The mission highlights the province’s commitment to global partnerships and disaster preparedness.
