Ships Arrive for San Francisco Fleet Week 2024

SAN FRANCISCO — On October 7, 2024, the USS Tripoli, USS Somerset, and the unmanned surface vessel Ranger made their entrance into San Francisco in a significant show of maritime strength. Their arrival marks the commencement of San Francisco Fleet Week 2024, set to unfold from October 7 to 14.

A diverse array of military forces have converged in the city, including sailors, marines, and coast guardsmen, alongside international representatives such as the Royal Canadian Navy’s HMCS Regina. The U.S. contingent is further bolstered by the maritime security cutter USCG Bertholf and various military units and squadrons. Notably, the U.S. Navy Blue Angels and the Leap Frogs will also be part of this annual event.

This year’s Fleet Week incorporates practical training elements through a disaster response exercise. The collaboration involves local and federal agencies, training to handle potential crises like earthquakes and industrial accidents. This exercise aims to enhance emergency preparedness and interagency coordination.

Service members will engage the public through community projects and performances. The U.S. Navy, along with the Marine Corps and Air Force bands, will host free concerts throughout neighborhoods in San Francisco. Residents and visitors alike can look forward to these musical events.

The public is invited to tour the participating ships, gaining insight into their operations and the critical role these forces play in U.S. national defense. Tours will be conducted across city piers from October 9 to 14, though schedules are subject to change.

Security measures are strictly enforced, with a list of prohibited items outlined for attendees. Additionally, ship tours may require some physical exertion, and alternative offerings will be available on the pier for those who cannot participate in the onboard experience.

Fleet Fest, a weekend-long family-friendly festival, will be held at Pier 30/32. The festival promises a cultural blend of music and entertainment for the community.
