A new two-story squadron operations and simulator facility is set to be complete in fall 2024 at Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base Fort Worth.

FORT WORTH, TEXAS – In a pivotal step towards modernizing the United States Air Force Reserve Command (AFRC), a new two-story squadron operations facility and simulator facility will be completed by the fall of 2024 at Naval Air Station (NAS) Joint Reserve Base Fort Worth. This development will significantly support the 301st Fighter Wing, marking the first stand-alone F-35 wing in the USAF AFRC.

Covering over 55,000 square feet, the project’s success hinges on the collaboration of various teams, including engineers, tradespeople, and subject matter experts. Lt. Isaac Leskowat, Director at the Civil Engineer Corps, highlighted, “The prime contractor is Conti Federal Services, with oversight by the Fort Worth Office of Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command (NAVFAC) Region Southeast. Coordination with multiple agencies and Lockheed Martin ensures the seamless installation of the simulator.”

The inception of the project dates back to 2016, with the actual construction commencing in September 2021. Initial phases involved demolishing existing structures, paving the way for new developments. Leskowat noted the array of challenges faced, from geotechnical issues to severe weather damages. “Construction is inherently challenging, but our team’s resilience in addressing obstacles has been commendable,” Leskowat remarked.

This facility is vital for the 301st Fighter Wing, offering necessary infrastructure to support F-35 missions. The squadron operations facility will function as the command hub, while the simulator facility will provide realistic training environments for pilots.

Upon the project’s completion, Leskowat emphasized its significance, stating, “It showcases NAS JRB Fort Worth’s capabilities and underscores our strong inter-agency relationships. It’s about enhancing combat readiness and ensuring our community in Fort Worth benefits from the proficiency and competencies developed here.”

NAS JRB Fort Worth, recognized for its training and support in missions such as airlift and aerial refueling, remains a cornerstone of the national defense infrastructure.
