USS Shiloh Holds Change of Command

JOINT BASE PEARL HARBOR-HICKAM — On August 29, the USS Shiloh (CG 67), a Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser, hosted a change of command ceremony.

Capt. Bryan E. Geisert officially took over from Capt. Adam G. Cheatham as the commanding officer of the Shiloh. Cheatham, who had been in command since October 2021, is set to serve his next tour at Commander, Naval Surface Group Middle Pacific.

Geisert brings extensive experience to his new role. His sea duty tours include deployments on the USS Milius (DDG 69), USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76), USS George Washington (CVN 73), and USS Wayne E. Meyer (DDG 108). He has been recognized with the Commander, Destroyer Squadron (COMDESRON) 21 Junior Officer Award for Excellence in Tactics and recently led the USS Wayne E. Meyer (DDG 108). His shore duties have included serving as a J5 planner for NATO Rapid Deployable Corps and as the chief of staff at the Board of Inspection and Survey (INSURV) in Little Creek, Virginia.

“I am humbled and honored to be the 19th Commanding Officer of USS Shiloh,” said Geisert. “The crew’s professionalism, teamwork, and warfighting prowess are truly impressive, and I am very excited to be part of it.”

Capt. Joseph Ring, Commander of Naval Surface Group Middle Pacific, also addressed the crew, emphasizing the readiness and skill of the Shiloh’s team. “Shiloh is manned with some of the very best of America’s maritime streetfighters,” said Ring. “During Capt. Cheatham’s command, the ship operated with class, professionalism, and expertise.”

Cheatham thanked his crew for their dedication and hard work, which he credited for the ship’s operational success. “It has been an honor to serve as captain of this exceptional warship,” he said.

Throughout Cheatham’s tenure, the USS Shiloh was active in various international operations. From November to December 2022 and again from June to August 2023, the Shiloh escorted the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan. The ship also participated in missions across the Philippine Sea, Guam, Sea of Japan, South Pacific Sea near Fiji, and the Hawaii Operational Area, enhancing multinational relations and maritime security. Notably, in September 2023, the Shiloh carried out a successful homeport shift to Hawaii after being based in Yokosuka, Japan, for 17 years.

Now homeported at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, the Shiloh supports security and stability in the Indo-Pacific region. Assigned to Commander, Naval Surface Group Middle Pacific, the Shiloh remains a combat-ready force committed to protecting maritime interests with its allies and partners in the region.
