Australia, Japan, Philippines, and US Unite for Major Maritime Collaboration
In a demonstration of united commitment to maintaining a free and open Indo-Pacific, naval forces from Australia, Japan, the Philippines, and the United States recently conducted a coordinated Maritime Cooperative Activity (MCA) within the Philippines’ Exclusive Economic Zone. This event took place on February 5th, as part of continuing efforts to bolster regional and international cooperation.
The MCA serves as an extension of previous joint operations, focusing on enhancing the interoperability of participating nations’ defense doctrines and tactical procedures. All activities were carried out in accordance with international law, ensuring respect for navigational rights and freedoms. The exercise featured key military assets, including the U.S. Navy’s USS Benfold and a P-8A Poseidon aircraft from Patrol Squadron 47, along with contributions from the Royal Australian Navy’s HMAS Hobart and an MH-60R Sea Hawk helicopter.
On the Philippine side, the BRP Jose Rizal played a significant role, while Japan was represented by the JS Akizuki and an SH-60K helicopter. In reaffirming the principles of freedom of navigation and lawful use of the sea, this cooperative endeavor underscores the participating nations’ resolve to promote stability and security in the region.
