In Alaska, the U.S. 3rd Fleet’s Naval and Amphibious Liaison Element (NALE) integrated naval and air operations with the bi-national Alaskan North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) Region during Operation POLAR VORTEX. Based primarily on Navy Reserve personnel, the NALE delivers essential face-to-face coordination for complex operations at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson.

Rear Adm. Richard W. Meyer praised the Navy Reserve’s vital contribution, stating, “Our Reserve members provide strategic depth and expertise, crucial for operations in the Northern Pacific.” This diverse team enhances warfighting capabilities and bridges the gap between military and civilian expertise.

In collaboration, the 611th Air Operations Center worked alongside NALE to boost multi-domain awareness across the Arctic. This cooperation heightened joint force readiness by integrating maritime and air domains, delivering a cohesive operating picture for commanders.

RCAF Brig. Gen. David Moar highlighted NALE’s role in synchronizing naval and air operations: “Their expertise enabled precise coordination, essential for supporting maritime components.” This integration validated joint command control through scenarios like simulated air-to-surface strikes.

Operating in Arctic’s harsh conditions poses significant logistical challenges, necessitating seamless communication. NALE and the 611th AOC, through joint efforts, optimized the use of tactical assets, reducing risks and improving operational efficiency.

U.S. 3rd Fleet operations support USNORTHCOM and NORAD’s homeland defense missions. NALE plays a pivotal role in this, enhancing multi-domain awareness and executing missions that align with Pacific Fleet objectives.

Recognizing the demand for skilled personnel, NALE seeks officers and enlisted from varied military communities. U.S. Navy Capt. Chris Turl described joining NALE as “rewarding,” offering career development in the operational war community.

Looking ahead to Fiscal Year 2025, NALE’s expansion includes new units across global fleets. This growth aims to continue bringing together aviation, subsurface, surface, and intelligence experts in roles that challenge and develop warfighters’ skills. Aspiring members are encouraged to consider NALE as a priority in their career applications and reach out for further information.
