7th Fleet Destroyer Transits Taiwan Strait

The Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Ralph Johnson (DDG 114) is currently undertaking a routine transit through the Taiwan Strait. This operation took place on August 22, local time, through waters where high-seas freedom of navigation and overflight are upheld according to international law.

USS Ralph Johnson navigated a corridor in the strait, which lies beyond the territorial seas of any coastal state. This movement underscores the United States’ commitment to maintaining freedom of navigation for all nations.

The transit serves as a clear demonstration that no nation should face intimidation or coercion into renouncing their rights and freedoms. The U.S. military continues to exercise its right to fly, sail, and operate in any area permitted by international law.
