USS Michael Murphy, USS Spruance, and USS Frank E. Petersen Jr. Make Impactful Port Visits in Thailand and Singapore
In a demonstration of international camaraderie, the USS Frank E. Petersen Jr., USS Michael Murphy, and USS Spruance, part of the Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group, recently concluded significant port visits to Thailand and Singapore. These visits underscored the United States’ strong relationships with both nations.
Capt. Kevin Louis of USS Frank E. Petersen Jr. highlighted the importance of such engagements. “Visiting Singapore exemplifies our commitment to regional partnerships and mutual goals of a free and open Indo-Pacific,” he stated. The visits not only fostered military cooperation but also allowed Sailors to explore local cultures, cuisines, and attractions.
Moreover, Sailors actively participated in community relations projects. USS Frank E. Petersen Jr. crew members volunteered with Singapore’s ‘Child at Street 11’ program, aiding young children’s education. Volunteers from USS Michael Murphy and USS Spruance engaged with Thailand’s Soi Dog Foundation, supporting animal rescue efforts.
Cmdr. Jonathan B. Greenwald of USS Michael Murphy expressed gratitude to Thailand for the warm hospitality and opportunities for cultural exchange, including ship tours and sharing the story of their vessel’s namesake, LT Michael Murphy.
Notably, Cmdr. Thomas “Matt” Adams of USS Spruance appreciated the chance for Sailors to participate in local volunteer events, emphasizing the morale boost it provided. “Thanks to our Thai hosts, our Sailors experienced much-needed rest and recovery,” said Cmdr. Adams.
After these enriching experiences, the three destroyers continue their deployment within the 7th Fleet area of operations, underscoring ongoing commitments to regional stability. The Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group is heavily involved in routine operations across the Indo-Pacific, reflecting continuous collaboration with allies to maintain a free and open region.
