BOSTON – The crew of the USS Constitution will mark the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks with a solemn ceremony on September 11, 2024. This event will take place aboard the historic ship.

Commencing at 8:05 a.m., the ceremony will feature remarks from the commanding officer, Cmdr. Crystal L. Schaefer. This early start underscores the significance of the events being remembered.

To honor the victims, USS Constitution will perform four gun salutes, representing each plane that tragically crashed on that day. Each shot aims to resonate with the memories of lives lost.

In addition, USS Constitution Sailors will read the names of Navy service members and Boston residents who died in the attacks. This poignant act ensures that the personal losses are kept in the collective memory.

Following the ceremony, the USS Constitution will welcome the public aboard from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on September 11, 2024. It’s an opportunity for the public to engage with history personally.

Regular visiting hours for the ship are from Tuesday to Sunday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. This allows ongoing access to the storied vessel.

The USS Constitution holds the title of the world’s oldest commissioned warship still afloat. Known as America’s Ship of State, it played a key role in the Barbary Wars and the War of 1812, safeguarding sea lanes from 1797 to 1855.
