Vice Chief of Naval Operations Visits Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory

Chief of Naval Operations Admiral Lisa Franchetti held a formal bilateral engagement with Vice Admiral Juan Ricardo Rozo Obregón, Commander of the Colombian Navy, at the Inter-American Naval Conference. The event took place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on September 23.

During the meeting, both leaders discussed methods to enhance the robust naval partnership between the United States and Colombia. They particularly focused on expanding collaborative efforts to ensure regional security and stability, emphasizing the importance of upholding a rules-based international order.

Admiral Franchetti expressed her gratitude for Colombia’s leadership role in the region, highlighting their active participation in exercises like UNITAS LXV and the Southern Seas 2024 partnership. Both officials voiced their anticipation for future joint exercises.

The discussion also included the Diesel Electric Submarine Initiative, which aims to bolster interoperability between the two navies. This initiative is a testament to their shared commitment to countering illicit maritime activities and enhancing mutual operational capabilities.
