Edinburgh, SCOTLAND – On August 15, Secretary of the Navy Carlos Del Toro engaged in high-level discussions with Høgni Hoydal, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Industry, and Trade of the Faroe Islands.

The meeting centered on mutual security interests within the Arctic Circle. Key topics included strategic competition, climate change impacts, fisheries management, and navigation through the GIUK Gap. Secretary Del Toro highlighted the recent release of the U.S. Department of Defense Arctic Strategy and noted that the Navy’s upcoming Arctic strategy would bolster the DoD’s efforts across maritime regions.

Del Toro expressed gratitude for the Faroe Islands’ ongoing support for U.S. Navy submarine port visits. The recent visit of USS Albany (SSN 753) exemplified this cooperation. Further strengthening ties, Secretary Del Toro extended an invitation to Minister Hoydal for a visit to the Pentagon in Washington, D.C.
