Oak Hill arrives in Malaga, Spain

The USS Oak Hill has docked in Málaga, Spain, marking a significant logistical milestone. Cmdr. Beth-Ann Martin emphasized that refueling here is vital for reducing mid-ocean replenishment needs during its trans-Atlantic journey.

Málaga presents an opportunity for the Oak Hill to stock supplies before its Atlantic crossing. This stop is part of a series of port visits, including a recent halt in Souda Bay, Greece, where crew performed an agricultural wash down.

“Planning for these refueling stops is meticulous,” expressed Lt. Lilly Payne, stressing the ongoing dialogue with naval task forces over the ship’s fuel and storage requirements. The preparation ensures smooth operations without last-minute hitches.

Alongside refueling, sailors and marines aboard will explore Málaga’s storied history and renowned cuisine. This cultural engagement provides a brief respite from operational duties.

The Oak Hill is operating within the Wasp Amphibious Ready Group, linked to the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit in the Mediterranean. Their mission focuses on regional stability and deterring hostilities while fulfilling U.S. and allied interests.

The Wasp group includes the USS Wasp, USS New York, and the Oak Hill, alongside the marine expeditionary unit comprising various combat and logistics elements. These forces function as a cohesive unit, blending air, ground, and support capabilities.

For over eight decades, the NAVEUR-NAVAF has been pivotal in maintaining robust alliances, bolstering security and peace across the European and African naval theaters.
