Vice Chief of Naval Operations Visits Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory

PACIFIC OCEAN – On September 27, the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz (CVN 68) accomplished a vital milestone in its journey towards deployment readiness. This achievement occurred during its first post planned incremental availability exercise while it was underway in the Pacific Ocean.

The highlight of this exercise was the successful completion of a Final Evaluation Problem (FEP). This command assessment was specifically crafted to match the training requirements of the Nimitz and to prepare the ship for its imminent deployment. By passing the FEP, the USS Nimitz transitions into the pre-deployment phase, setting the stage for the Composite Training Unit Exercise (COMPTUEX) ahead of its future missions.

“We’ve cleared the first significant obstacle in the Nimitz’s pre-deployment training,” stated Capt. Douglas Graber, the commanding officer of the Nimitz. “The process was challenging, but the dedication and hard work of our team were pivotal to our success. I am extremely proud of our crew and their exemplary performance throughout the evaluation.”
