Navy Closure Task Force-Red Hill Invites Public to Open House

Members of the Navy Closure Task Force (NCTF-RH) will provide updates on efforts to clean and close Red Hill Bulk Fuel Storage Facility’s (RHBFSF) storage tanks.

“These quarterly Open Houses allow direct engagement with community members to showcase our progress at Red Hill,” stated Rear Adm. Steve Barnett, commander, NCTF-RH. “Our team is eager to demonstrate the milestones we’ve reached in cleaning the tanks and to receive community feedback.”

The event will host information booths and displays covering the tank cleaning process, progress, and timeline. Attendees can observe samples of sludge removed from tanks 7 and 8, view historical artifacts, and see images taken from inside the facility. An online dashboard prototype will also be demonstrated to depict the cleaning progress. NCTF-RH staff will be available to answer questions, and a dedicated children’s activity table will be present.

Water quality experts will attend to address queries and provide details regarding the Extended Drinking Water Monitoring plan and the Water Quality Action Team. Representatives from the Environmental Protection Agency and the University of Hawaii’s Red Hill Independent Health Registry will also be available to share information and answer public questions.

NCTF-RH remains dedicated to collaborating with government agencies and community stakeholders. Their mission includes the safe closure of RHBFSF underground storage tanks and associated piping systems, carrying out long-term environmental remediation, and ensuring continued access to safe drinking water in compliance with all relevant laws and regulations.
