Navy Region EURAFCENT Dominates FY24 Retention Excellence Awards
Commander, Navy Region Europe, Africa, and Central (EURAFCENT), alongside several naval supports including Naval Support Activity (NSA) Bahrain, Naval Support Activity Naples, and Naval Air Station Sigonella, have all been distinguished with retention recognition for their exceptional service.
The Retention Excellence Awards (REA) are conferred based on strict evaluation criteria across 19 platforms. Commands earn this honor by meeting specified reenlistment rate benchmarks while not exceeding attrition rate benchmarks for a minimum of two quarters.
Rear Admiral Brad Collins, Commander of Navy Region EURAFCENT, highlighted the region’s superior performance amid challenging times. “Our commitment to retaining qualified professionals is crucial as we navigate constant security threats. This talent pool ensures we can maintain a combat-ready force,” stated Collins.
NSA Bahrain achieved recognition for the seventh year consecutively and clinched its first Best-In-Class (BIC) award in the large installation category. With a retention rate surpassing 68%, it has been granted the honor of displaying a blue pennant at the installation.
In response to these achievements, NSA Bahrain Commanding Officer, Capt. Zachariah Aperauch, acknowledged the comprehensive effort behind the accolade. “This success belongs to every team member, from junior Sailors to senior leaders. Our installation sets a precedent for nurturing talent and excellence,” he expressed in a press release.
The Navy Region EURAFCENT was awarded the Legacy REA, showcasing their consistent performance across installations like NSA Naples and NSA Souda Bay, which also earned BIC consideration, allowing them to fly a gold pennant.
Admiral Collins emphasized the critical role of each Sailor across the region. “Sailors’ devotion is instrumental in executing precise and timely operations. The Retention Excellence Awards reflect their unwavering commitment to the mission,” he stated.
To qualify for these awards, installations must meet specific retention and attrition rate criteria. For instance, installations must maintain attrition rates under 4% for Sailors with less than six years of service, ensuring accurate retention data and sustaining operational strength.
The Navy Region EURAFCENT’s critical support to military logistics and operations extends across seven countries, enabling strategic deployment to reinforce security and stability in the European, African, and Central Command regions.
