PNSY Delivers Texas as Battle-Ready Asset to the Fleet

The Texas Project Team at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard (PNSY) has successfully returned the USS Texas back to operational status. This collaboration involved trade workers, engineers, and support personnel who worked alongside the submarine’s crew. Their collective mission was to equip the warfighters with advanced systems and enhanced capabilities.

PNSY underscored its strategic innovation in managing this project. The Shipyard adopted an aggressive timeline strategy to meet the Navy’s directives for combat-ready submarines. “We moved with urgency and purpose to advance Texas’ delivery schedule,” stated Shipyard Commander Capt. Michael Oberdorf.

Submarine Squadron Two played a supportive role throughout this process. “Texas exemplifies resilience,” commented Commodore Capt. Jason Deichler. “The team displayed perseverance, ensuring that our submarine force remains unmatched in its capabilities.”

Commanding Officer Cmdr. Chad Ingle expressed pride in leading the team aboard Texas. “The challenges of modernization have been significant, but our crew’s dedication has ensured a prepared return to the fleet,” he highlighted. Kevin Belisle, the project superintendent, also received accolades for his leadership at PNSY.

Attack submarines like Texas offer versatile capabilities in naval warfare. They excel in various operations, ranging from anti-submarine and anti-ship warfare to reconnaissance and special operations. The submarines are integral to projecting power during regional crises.

The depot modernization period (DMP) is a critical phase where submarines undergo extensive updates and repairs. This process ensures that crucial mechanical and electrical systems are fully operational and ready for deployment.

Portsmouth Naval Shipyard remains at the forefront of attack submarine maintenance. By ensuring the delivery of combat-ready submarines, PNSY strengthens the Navy’s warfighting capacities and readiness.
