NAS Pensacola CO Signs Proclamation for Domestic Violence Awareness Month

In an effort to highlight the support systems available to military families affected by domestic violence, a significant signing event took place at NAS Pensacola. This initiative aims to show solidarity with survivors and cultivate an environment where they can safely seek help.

“Domestic violence impacts not only the victims directly involved, but also undermines unit cohesion, morale, and overall operational readiness,” remarked Shashaty. Addressing such issues proactively is essential for strengthening military teams and enhancing the resilience of service members.

The event, conducted in partnership with NAS Pensacola’s Fleet and Family Support Center (FFSC), focused on raising awareness and extending support to survivors of domestic violence. Representatives from FFSC highlighted the critical need to tackle domestic violence within military settings while providing necessary services to address and prevent it.

“It’s vital that we break the silence around domestic violence and offer resources to those affected,” stated Brittany Oehrle, a Family Advocate Program Victim Advocate at FFSC. Identifying signs of domestic violence and speaking out against it are crucial steps to creating safe and supportive environments.

Various emergency resources are available for military personnel and their families facing domestic violence. The National Domestic Violence Hotline offers 24/7 confidential support at 1-800-799-7233. Additionally, active-duty service members, their families, and reservists on active duty can seek assistance through the Fleet and Family Support Center and the DoD Safe Helpline at 877-995-5247.

NAS Pensacola, known as the ‘Cradle of Naval Aviation,’ supports the operational and training missions of its tenant commands. This includes the Naval Aviation Technical Training Center, Naval Aviation Schools Command, Center for Information Warfare Training, Marine Aviation Training Support Groups 21 and 23, and serves as the headquarters for Naval Education and Training Command.
