USS Annapolis Returns Home to Naval Base Guam Following Indo-Pacific Deployment

NAVAL BASE GUAM – The USS Annapolis (SSN 760), a Los Angeles-class fast-attack submarine, has triumphantly returned to its homeport at Naval Base Guam following a three-month deployment in the Indo-Pacific region as of October 5, 2024. The crew’s efforts during this period have been lauded for their contribution to regional security.

Capt. Neil Steinhagen, commander of Submarine Squadron 15, praised the Annapolis, stating, “USS Annapolis exemplifies excellence and stands as the pinnacle of our submarine force, playing a vital role in ensuring a free and open Indo-Pacific.” His commendation underscores the crew’s commitment to advancing theater security and operational success. The Annapolis crew, true to their motto, demonstrated exceptional teamwork and preparedness.

The submarine, under the command of Capt. James Tuthill, executed essential missions, enhancing the operational maritime capacities in the Pacific. Notably, the Annapolis participated in crucial bilateral operations with the French Navy and accommodated Rear Adm. Chris Cavanaugh during a port visit to Yokosuka, Japan.

Capt. Tuthill expressed immense pride in his crew, stating, “I couldn’t be prouder of them, or the tenacity and professionalism they displayed every day at sea.” This sentiment highlights the crew’s resilience and determination throughout their deployment.

Commissioned on April 11, 1992, the USS Annapolis is the fourth U.S. Navy ship named after Annapolis, Maryland, the location of the United States Naval Academy. Presently, it operates out of Polaris Point, Naval Base Guam as part of Submarine Squadron 15, and is one of four Los Angeles-class submarines stationed in the Pacific. These submarines are acclaimed for their speed, endurance, stealth, and mobility, playing a pivotal role in maintaining maritime security globally.
