Harry S. Truman Carrier Strike Group Deploys

The Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyers, USS Jason Dunham (DDG 109) and USS Stout (DDG 55), are set to join the Harry S. Truman Carrier Strike Group (HSTCSG). These ships will conduct a scheduled deployment to the U.S. Naval Forces Europe-Africa/U.S. Sixth Fleet area of operations. This move underscores the Navy’s global reach and commitment to power projection.

Adm. Daryl Caudle, commander of U.S. Fleet Forces Command, noted, “This deployment follows the Dwight D. Eisenhower Carrier Strike Group’s nine-month mission, emphasizing the importance of sustained naval presence amid rising international tensions.” According to Caudle, the operational experience gained is crucial for maintaining skilled warfighters ready to operate in a rapidly changing security environment.

The Italian Navy’s Carlo Bergamini-class frigate ITS Carabiniere (F 593) will also join the strike group. The Carabiniere had previous joint operations with HSTCSG during the Composite Training Unit Exercise (COMPTUEX) in August, proving its interchangeability and ability to take part in the transfer of authority exercises.

Rear Adm. Sean Bailey, commander of HSTCSG, stated, “Over 6,500 Sailors have prepared extensively to showcase the combat power and flexibility of our U.S. Naval forces.” He added that the deployment aims to build interoperability with allies and deter potential adversaries.

The Harry S. Truman Carrier Strike Group has undergone significant training programs, including the Board of Inspection and Survey (INSURV) and underway training exercises such as Group Sail and COMPTUEX. “At the heart of the Carrier Strike Group is the aircraft carrier,” said Capt. Dave Snowden, commanding officer of Harry S. Truman. He praised Team Truman and Tarbox Sailors for their professionalism and warfighting spirit.

Throughout 26 years of service, the Harry S. Truman has deployed nine times, supporting numerous critical missions and operations. It has played a vital role in maintaining a free and open international order that promotes global security and prosperity. Participating squadrons of Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 1 onboard include the “Red Rippers” of Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 11 and the “Pukin’ Dogs” of Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 143, among others.

The enlisted destroyers also include the USS Jason Dunham and USS Stout from DESRON 28. This deployment continues the legacy of operational excellence and international cooperation.
