Vice Chief of Naval Operations Visits Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory

Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Lisa Franchetti has been declared cancer-free following her treatment for Stage 1 Breast Cancer at the John P. Murtha Cancer Center, located within the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.

Franchetti’s diagnosis came in late June during a routine mammogram screening. Her treatment plan included a successful outpatient surgery in July, followed by radiation therapy. This month, she began maintenance endocrine therapy to ensure her health remains stable. During the period of her surgery, Franchetti temporarily handed over her duties to the Vice Chief of Naval Operations.

“I am grateful for my wonderful team of doctors at John P. Murtha Cancer Center for their excellent care and their development of a treatment plan that allows me to continue leading the world’s greatest Navy,” Franchetti stated. She emphasized the importance of early detection, adding, “I am blessed that this was detected early and will forever be an advocate for early and routine screening.”
