The USS Jefferson City has returned home after a short deployment, having exceeded expectations through rigorous missions in the Indo-Pacific region. Capt. Neil Steinhagen, Commander of Submarine Squadron 15, praised the crew for their dedication to theater security and operational excellence, highlighting their commitment to the submarine’s motto, “When Any Exigence Calls.”

Commander Alexander (AJ) Franz of the USS Jefferson City noted the crew’s exceptional performance. Their focus and determination played a crucial role in enhancing national security and maritime capabilities, reinforcing the U.S. Navy’s strategic objectives.

Throughout the mission, 38 crew members earned their ‘dolphins’ or ‘fish’ insignia, marking their qualification in submarine warfare. Chief of the Boat, Master Chief Chris Halamoutis, acknowledged the sailors’ dedication, which mirrors the legacy of those who served before them.

The homecoming was marked by traditional “first kiss” and “first hug” ceremonies, awarded respectively to Lt. j.g Jonathan Lopez and Senior Chief Machinist Mate Timothy Murphy, celebrating their return.

Established on February 29, 1992, the USS Jefferson City stands unique among U.S. Navy vessels, being the sole submarine named after Missouri’s capital. It operates from Naval Base Guam as part of Submarine Squadron 15 and is one of four Los Angeles-class submarines in the Pacific, known for their speed and stealth capabilities.
