The USS Constitution will not be open to the public during its latest endeavor.

In celebration of its original launch on October 21, 1797, the historic vessel will navigate Boston Harbor.

Marking the occasion, a 21-gun salute is scheduled to occur near Fort Independence on Castle Island around 11:30 a.m. Additionally, the ship will execute a 17-gun salute as it nears the U.S. Coast Guard Sector Boston, paying homage to the site of Edmund Hartt’s Shipyard, where it was built.

For those interested in witnessing the spectacle, ideal viewing locations include the Boston Harborwalk, Castle Island, and the Charlestown Navy Yard.

Normally, the USS Constitution welcomes visitors from Wednesday to Sunday, between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.

As the world’s oldest commissioned warship still afloat, the USS Constitution holds the title of America’s Ship of State. It played a significant role during the Barbary Wars and the War of 1812, safeguarding American maritime paths from 1797 to 1855.
