The USS Blue Ridge has docked in the Republic of Palau for the first time, marking a significant moment in U.S.-Palau relations. This visit underscores the bi-lateral agreement known as the Compacts of Free Association (COFA) between the two nations.

Vice Adm. Fred Kacher, commander of the U.S. 7th Fleet, expressed gratitude for the warm reception from the people of Koror. He highlighted the visit’s importance in promoting freedom and security in the region. “We are eager to engage with Palauan leaders, connect with the community, and experience their unique culture and hospitality,” Kacher stated. During the port visit, the 7th Fleet and Blue Ridge leaders will meet with local officials to discuss further advancements in U.S.-Palau cooperation for regional security.

Crew members from both the ship and the 7th Fleet staff will participate in community relations activities and cultural events. These efforts aim to deepen their understanding of Palau’s history and foster stronger ties with its people.

The Blue Ridge, the oldest operational ship in the Navy, plays a crucial role in maintaining a free and open Indo-Pacific region through its regular operations with allies and partners.

As the largest forward-deployed fleet in the U.S. Navy, the 7th Fleet’s ongoing interactions and operations with regional allies are vital to the United States’ stabilizing presence in the area.
