The Crew of the Ship “Alexander Rogotsky” Delivered a 300-Year-Old Anchor to Kamchatka
The crew of the hydrographic ship “Alexander Rogotsky” of the Forces and Troops in the Northeast delivered a 300-year-old anchor found during an expedition from Matua Island in the Kuril Islands to Kamchatka.
At the request of specialists from the Russian Geographical Society, Pacific Fleet servicemen excavated the anchor from the ground on Toporkov Island. They then dragged it to the waterline, transported it by barge to the ship, and used a crane winch to lift it aboard the hydrographic vessel.
This historical artifact, discovered 21 years ago, is a four-fluked anchor about 3 meters long and weighing over 350 kilograms. Thanks to the efforts of the servicemen and the ship’s crew, the anchor was successfully delivered to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. It will soon be displayed at the exhibition site of the regional center.
