Revitalized Historic Gem Sets Sail at Naval Station Norfolk for SCSTC Training
NORFOLK, Va. – Surface Combat Systems Training Command (SCSTC) Hampton Roads marked a significant milestone with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at Naval Station Norfolk on December 9. This event celebrated the unveiling of the extensively renovated Building N-25, a project seven years in the making.
The over $24 million renovation addressed multiple infrastructure issues due to the ageing state of the historic building. “We’ve invested a lot to get here,” said Mr. Mark Wright, SCSTC’s Infrastructure Readiness Director. The renovation included extensive structural updates, new HVAC installations, and complete overhauls of the electrical and plumbing systems.
Building N-25 has a storied past. Its original section was built in 1917, followed by an expansion in 1968. In 1918, it served as a “General School,” offering various training courses for machinists and metalsmiths. The building was later named “Clendenin Hall” to honor Mr. William Allen Clendenin for his long-standing service.
The newly renovated 90,000 square foot facility is now equipped with state-of-the-art labs and classrooms. These facilities support a variety of training programs, including Radar and Anti-Submarine Warfare. “This renovation honors both history and the future of training,” said Capt. Riley Murdock, Commanding Officer of SCSTC HR.
SCSTC, part of the Naval Education and Training Command, operates 15 global sites. Annually, the command trains over 37,000 U.S. Navy Sailors and international partners. This renovation reinforces SCSTC’s mission to provide highly skilled warfighters to the fleet.
