Navy Unveils Latest Ship to Shore Connector: ACV 111 Ready for Action
New Orleans – A new era in naval logistics was ushered in with the delivery of the Ship to Shore Connector (SSC) LCAC 111 to the Navy from Textron Systems on November 27th.
This fresh addition to the Navy’s fleet follows rigorous Acceptance Trials by the Navy’s Board of Inspection and Survey. The trials aimed to assess the craft’s readiness and its ability to fulfill operational requirements effectively. Enhancing the Navy’s amphibious warfare capabilities, LCAC 111 is a crucial asset for rapid deployment and logistical support.
“With the introduction of LCAC 111, the Navy and Marine Corps gain an unparalleled edge in amphibious warfare,” stated Capt. Jason Grabelle. As the program manager for Amphibious Assault and Connectors Programs at Program Executive Office, Ships (PEO Ships), Grabelle underlined how this new craft bolsters operational readiness while addressing global challenges and emerging threats with agility.
Designed with configurations mirroring the legacy LCACs, the new air cushion vehicle ensures compatibility with well deck-equipped amphibious ships, Expeditionary Sea Bases, and Expeditionary Transfer Docks. Capable of transporting a payload between 60 and 75 tons, these craft carry vital resources including weapon systems, equipment, cargo, and assault personnel through challenging conditions and across beaches.
PEO Ships, among the Defense Department’s largest acquisition entities, oversees the development and procurement of a diverse range of naval vessels. This includes destroyers, amphibious ships, special mission ships, and a host of support vessels.
