From frontier deployments with the Marine Corps to his current significant role as a SERE instructor, Nasuta’s journey reflects a strong commitment to aiding fellow Sailors and Marines in challenging environments.

Legacy and Enlistment: A Family Tradition

Raised in New Jersey, Nasuta’s dedication to military service stems from a family deeply rooted in such traditions. Both his grandfathers fought during World War II, and his uncle played a crucial role in Vietnam. Inspired by their contributions, Nasuta took a step into the Navy in 2011 as a hospital corpsman, channeling his desire to positively impact others’ lives.

Career Evolution and New Horizons

Following his training at Hospital Corpsman “A” School, Nasuta’s career took him from Naval Hospital Bremerton to deploying with the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit. Recognized for his service, he earned accolades such as Bluejacket of the Year. Yet, after a decade with assignments including Italy and MARSOC, he sought a new challenge. The survival skills he developed in SERE training resonated deeply, leading him towards a position as a SERE instructor.

“Teaching survival skills was a natural extension of my passion and could heighten the force’s competencies,” Nasuta reflected.

Transition to SERE Instructor

In 2023, Nasuta successfully transitioned to the instructional team at SERE West. Rigorous screening and training honed his abilities, earning him a place at the Naval Education and Training Command, known for ensuring Navy personnel receive top-tier training.

“The passion and adaptability of instructors here are outstanding,” Nasuta stated. “Our tailored teaching equips students for future challenges.”

Instructing and Inspiring

Nasuta relishes mentoring students, imparting skills ranging from navigation to plant identification. He recalled one student who overcame difficulties with land navigation, thanks to collective support.

“Success is a joint effort,” Nasuta emphasized. “Seeing students progress is a source of immense gratification.”

Beyond Survival: Building Resilience

For Nasuta, SERE instruction isn’t solely about survival techniques but fostering resilience and endurance. “Our program reveals latent potential in students,” he noted. On a personal quest to continuously expand his knowledge, Nasuta strives to elevate his students’ learning experience, sharing his affection for the outdoors.

A Future Aligned with Passion

Nasuta’s experiences at NETC have fueled aspirations of becoming a wildlife biologist, harmonizing his professional and personal interests. He advocates for an open mindset, urging students to embrace learning opportunities.

“Service in the Navy has been both a career and personal growth journey,” he reflected. “Shaping others, while evolving myself, has been truly fulfilling.”
