The AP School Honor Roll has recognized several schools for their commitment to enhancing educational opportunities through Advanced Placement programs. These schools are dedicated to providing students with college-level coursework, aiding in faster graduation and promoting academic excellence. Research consistently indicates that participation in AP courses increases the likelihood of college enrollment and timely degree completion.

Dr. Judith Minor, Director for Student Excellence at DoDEA Americas, expressed pride in the achievements of their high schools. “It’s remarkable to see our schools recognized for their efforts,” said Dr. Minor. “By offering AP courses, we equip our military-connected students for higher education success while offering financial benefits through college credit opportunities.”

AP courses are designed to be academically challenging, offering clear expectations and encouraging critical thinking and research. This is especially important for military-connected students, who often face frequent relocations. Access to rigorous coursework ensures these students maintain consistent standards, aiding education continuity. Additionally, earning college credits through AP presents a financial advantage, a crucial benefit for military families confronted with unique financial challenges.

Within the DoDEA curriculum, AP courses focus on open-mindedness and intellectual growth. They are grounded in primary sources and encourage independent student conclusions. Teachers are viewed as subject matter experts, and the content aligns with high academic standards recognized by colleges.

The following DoDEA Americas high schools were commended for fostering a college-focused environment and advancing college readiness:

Platinum Status:
Ramey Unit School
Gold Status:
Fort Knox High School
Silver Status:
Lejeune High School
Quantico Middle High School
Bronze Status:
Antilles High School
Fort Campbell High School

WT Sampson earned Platinum in two categories this year, yet did not meet the requirements for the Honor Roll due to a small senior class size. Nevertheless, the Guantanamo Bay school received a gold medal on the 2022-23 Honor Roll.

The recognition of DoDEA Americas high schools on the AP School Honor Rolls emphasizes their commitment to delivering quality education to military-connected students. The College Board’s acknowledgment highlights DoDEA’s dedication to sustaining academic excellence and preparing students for collegiate success.
