SECNAV Del Toro Urges Congress to Act on Critical Funding Resolution

WASHINGTON – Secretary of the Navy Carlos Del Toro addressed Congressional leaders today, Sept. 16, 2024, expressing significant concerns over the impacts of a six-month continuing resolution (CR) on the Navy and Marine Corps.

Del Toro highlighted that operating under last year’s funding levels would severely hamper the Department of the Navy’s (DON) capabilities and impose undue strain on its personnel and their families. He emphasized that the negative consequences would extend beyond the CR’s duration, affecting the military’s ability to defend the nation.

The Secretary elaborated on the delays in the delivery of Virginia-class and Columbia-class submarines, alongside setbacks in crucial investments in the submarine industrial base due to the funding impasse.

“The Department of the Navy is prepared to assist Congress in any capacity to ensure that this vital legislation is enacted,” Del Toro stated. “Securing this funding is critical for our national defense.”
