USS Bulkeley (DDG 84) Makes Routine Port Visit to Cyprus

The USS Bulkeley recently showcased its operational prowess in a joint exercise with Cyprus, emphasizing the United States’ commitment to enhancing stability in the Eastern Mediterranean. On November 29, 2024, Bulkeley executed maneuvering exercises alongside the Republic of Cyprus’ offshore patrol vessel, the Commodore Andreas Ioannides (P61).

Commander Arturo Trejo, leading officer aboard Bulkeley, expressed the significance of the mission, stating, “This patrol has been a professionally rewarding experience for this hardworking crew. I can think of no better opportunity than a stop in Larnaca to experience this historic country.”

The crew, stationed in Larnaca, anticipates some well-earned respite, with Yeoman First Class Joshua Kelley noting their excitement to explore Cyprus.

Embedded with the “Griffins” of Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron 79, the Bulkeley is presently on a scheduled deployment under the U.S. Sixth Fleet. Their mission, part of the U.S. Naval Forces Europe’s operations, is to safeguard U.S. and allied interests in the region.

The U.S. Sixth Fleet, headquartered in Naples, Italy, is pivotal in conducting joint and naval operations across Europe and Africa. Coordinating with allied and interagency partners, the fleet plays a critical role in advancing U.S. security and stability goals internationally.
