U.S. Navy Fortresses Gear Up for Annual Defense Drill Adventure
WASHINGTON — The United States Navy is gearing up for its annual Citadel Shield-Solid Curtain 2025 exercise from February 3-14, aimed at testing and amplifying force protection across all Navy installations in the continental United States.
Admiral Daryl Caudle, commander of the U.S. Fleet Forces Command, emphasized the objective: “Citadel Shield-Solid Curtain is crucial for testing adaptability against evolving security threats.” This comprehensive exercise spans two weeks, featuring a field training exercise (FTX) led by the Navy Installations Command and a command post exercise (CPX) under the U.S. Fleet Forces Command.
The initial week focuses on Citadel Shield, where potential real-world threats like active shooters and unauthorized base access are simulated. This is followed by the Solid Curtain exercise in the subsequent week, reinforcing command-level preparedness. “Our exercises are indispensable,” remarked Vice Admiral Scott Gray, commander, Navy Installations Command. “They hone our Navy’s readiness and ensure a unified response with partner agencies.”
This scheduled drill is not a reaction to any immediate threat. Although designed to run smoothly, local communities near naval bases might experience increased traffic or temporary delays. Residents are advised to stay informed through their local Navy installation’s website and social media for updates on potential local impacts.
