U.S. and Allied Forces Conduct La Perouse 2025

The biennial La Perouse exercise has concluded, highlighting multilateral cooperation in the Indo-Pacific. This joint exercise emphasized regional security through maritime surveillance and progressive training.

Designed to bolster maritime security, the exercise involved navies from the U.S. and allied nations. The initiative fostered collaboration, advanced warfighting skills, and enhanced readiness in a strategic theater.

Captain Matt Scarlett commented on the significance of U.S. and French naval cooperation, underscoring shared priorities and missions. “Our foreign partnerships are fundamental to ensuring sustained maritime peace,” he said.

Named after an 18th-century French naval officer, La Perouse embodies longstanding maritime values. The French Navy was represented by the Charles de Gaulle carrier strike group, partaking in the Clemenceau 25 deployment.

Vice Admiral Fred Kacher expressed optimism about continued U.S.-French collaboration. “Their participation highlights our mutual commitment to this pivotal maritime region,” Kacher noted.

Several international vessels joined the exercise, including units from Australia, Canada, India, Malaysia, the United Kingdom, and Singapore. These included the Royal Australian Navy’s HMAS Hobart, Royal Canadian Navy’s HMCS Ottawa, and others.

Destroyer Squadron 7 (DESRON 7), focused on the Indo-Pacific, played a key role as the primary tactical commander. Maintaining regional stability, DESRON 7 is crucial in training and engagement efforts.

The U.S. 7th Fleet remains a pivotal force in ensuring a free and open Indo-Pacific, consistently engaging with international allies to uphold regional cooperation.
