Top Naval Leaders Forge Ties: Adm. Lisa Franchetti Hosts Thai Counterpart Adm. Jirapol Wongwit at Pentagon Summit
Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Lisa Franchetti convened with Royal Thai Navy Commander-in-Chief Adm. Jirapol Wongwit at the Pentagon today, marking a significant step in naval collaboration between the U.S. and Thailand.
In their meeting, the leaders strategized on enhancing interoperability and strengthening capabilities. Emphasis was placed on expanding maritime domain awareness through the integration of robotic and autonomous systems, alongside advancements in cyber security. Both nations reiterated their commitment to military modernization, aiming to address shared security challenges.
Franchetti presented the Navigation Plan for America’s Warfighting Navy to Wongwit, emphasizing warfighting priorities, support for warfighters, and fostering international relationships. She appreciated Thailand’s ongoing support for U.S. naval operations, specifically acknowledging the recent USS Carl Vinson Carrier Strike Group’s visit to Laem Chabang.
Further discussions explored future collaborative endeavors, highlighting participation in various exercises such as Cobra Gold, Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC), and CARAT Thailand. These exercises aim to bolster bilateral and multilateral ties.
Thailand, a major non-NATO ally and key ASEAN member, remains a pivotal partner in the Indo-Pacific, bolstering regional security in collaboration with the United States.
