SECNAV Del Toro Honors Mike Bloomberg with Prestigious Distinguished Public Service Award
Michael Bloomberg has been honored with the Distinguished Public Service (DPS) award by the Secretary of the Navy, Carlos Del Toro. This acknowledgment celebrates Bloomberg’s significant contributions as a civilian champion of the Navy’s innovation initiatives.
“This award is well deserved,” remarked Secretary Del Toro. “Your dedication to the Navy contributes to keeping us ahead of the curve.” Bloomberg’s role as chair of the Defense Innovation Board has been pivotal, fostering numerous initiatives benefiting both the Navy and the Marine Corps.
The former Mayor of New York City supported the Department of the Navy’s capability portfolio management strategy, coinciding with the centennial celebration of the Naval Research Lab. He advocated for ambitious projects such as utilizing robotic and autonomous systems, and inviting private capital investment to enhance national security innovations. His efforts focused on speeding up technology integration into military systems.
During the award ceremony, Bloomberg expressed his gratitude, “This is a special honor that I’m glad to share with a lot of people, including the hardworking members and staff of the Defense Innovation Board and the team at Bloomberg.”
