Sacramento Hosts Exciting Navy Week Festivities
This year, Sacramento Navy Week marks a proud moment as it aligns with the U.S. Navy’s 250th anniversary. This milestone signifies a long-standing history of maritime prowess, national safety, and global leadership.
“America thrives as a maritime nation, with 90% of commerce navigating seas protected by the Navy for 250 years,” stated Cmdr. Julie Holland, Director of the Navy Office of Community Outreach. “We’re eager to bring Navy Sailors to Sacramento. Despite the sophisticated weapons systems the Navy employs, it’s our skilled personnel, both at sea and on land, that offer an unparalleled advantage. Navy Weeks allow Americans to connect with Sailors whose integrity, competence, and commitment to duty reflect a tradition of authority, from seabed to space.”
Sacramento has previously hosted Navy Weeks on four occasions, the last being in 2018. This year’s event promises a dynamic agenda to engage and inspire the Sacramento community:
- Meet senior Navy leaders, including those with Sacramento connections.
- Engage with Sailors aboard the USS California, a Virginia-class submarine.
- Experience performances by the U.S. Navy Band Southwest, featuring live music and masterclasses.
- Discover Sacramento’s naval history through interactive sessions from the Naval History and Heritage Command.
- Observe demonstrations from the USS Constitution, showcasing its enduring legacy.
- Participate in STEM sessions from the U.S. Naval Meteorology and Oceanography Command, focusing on oceanographic and atmospheric sciences.
- Explore career opportunities via Navy Talent Acquisition Group community projects and displays.
Navy Weeks aim to connect regions without a strong naval presence, highlighting the Navy’s essential role in ensuring national security, prosperity, and freedom. Since its inception in 2005, the Navy Week program has reached over 95 U.S. markets.
Navy Week serves as the Navy’s primary outreach program, designed to strengthen ties between the Navy and the American populace. Over the years, it has brought Navy missions, personnel, and capabilities to numerous communities, fostering inspiration and unity across the nation.
