NMCB 11 Seabees Rescue Stranded Motorists on the Roadside
In an impressive display of quick thinking and bravery, members of the Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 11 (NMCB-11) carried out a swift rescue operation near Gulfport, Mississippi. The Seabees, on their way back home from a military exercise, noticed a submerged vehicle at the site of a recent collision, prompting immediate action.
Builder 2nd Class Thomas McLaughlin, a key figure in the rescue, described the urgency of the situation. “We spotted the car while stopped for a routine check and ran straight over,” he explained. “The occupants were frightened but felt reassured when they saw us get into the water to help.” Displaying commendable teamwork, the Seabees transported the elderly motorists to safety through challenging terrain of waist-deep mud and water.
Once the occupants were safe, Hospital Corpsman 1st Class Marcos Ramirez conducted thorough assessments for any injuries among the motorists involved in the three-car accident. Simultaneously, Equipment Operator 1st Class Andrew Warren coordinated with arriving emergency services to ensure a seamless handover.
With first responders taking control of the scene, the convoy resumed its journey, returning safely to the Naval Construction Battalion Center in Gulfport. This action underscores the comprehensive readiness of NMCB-11, a unit under NavCon Group 2, where their mission encompasses organizing and equipping Naval Construction Regiments to provide essential engineering support across diverse military operations.
