Navy Snow Team Embarks on Epic Journey to Sapporo’s Renowned Snow Festival
The U.S. Navy’s presence at the Sapporo Snow Festival continues this year with an impressive display. Sailors from NAF Misawa and Commander, Task Force 70, are set to sculpt the formidable U.S. Navy F-35C Lightning II stealth fighter jet in snow. This team was selected based on their outstanding performance and commitment to duty.
Leading the endeavor are Lt. Cmdr. Seth Koenig and Chief Aviation Ordnanceman Enrico Dagsindal. The team includes eight skilled members: Mass Communication Specialist First Class Caroline Lui, Mass Communication Specialist Second Class Matthew Fischer, Aviation Support Equipment Technician First Class Hernan Hernandez, Culinary Specialist Second Class Adallis Bookman, Religious Program Specialist Second Class David Johnson, and Builder Second Class Sawson Doty.
The snow sculpture is slated for completion by February 3rd. Beyond their artistic endeavors, the Sailors will engage with festival attendees in Sapporo until February 7th. Visitors are invited to capture memories with pictures and converse with Sailors, fostering goodwill and cultural exchange.
This participation marks the 40th consecutive year of U.S. Navy involvement in the festival, symbolizing a deep cultural bond and ongoing friendship between the U.S. Navy and the people of Japan.
