The U.S. Navy is set to introduce a new document, the Certificate of Uniformed Service (Reserve Component Addendum), beginning February 1. This initiative is aimed at Reservists who are separating, retiring, or transitioning to the Individual Ready Reserve or Standby Reserve.

Rear Adm. Stu Satterwhite, Commander of the MyNavy Career Center (MNCC), emphasized the Navy’s commitment to support its members. “Taking care of our teammates means setting them up for success in the next chapter after military service,” he stated. This new form aims to streamline the process by consolidating crucial information into one document.

The updated form will include details such as total career points, both active and inactive service periods, and non-regular retirement (NRR) calculations. It will also highlight activation periods that contribute to NRR eligibility age reduction, enabling qualified Reservists to retire with pay earlier than the standard age of 60.

Accuracy is key for Reservists preparing to separate, as Satterwhite advises. It is essential for them to review their retirement points consistently and submit their separation or retirement requests at least 60 days prior to leaving the Navy to ensure precise entitlements.

For ongoing support, Reservists can connect with the MNCC at any time to inquire about their applications or address queries regarding the DD-214-1 form.

The transition will not affect Reservists’ receipt of the DD-214, which documents individual active duty service periods. Both documents, the DD-214 and DD-214-1, will be recorded in the Official Military Personnel File. Processing of these forms will take place at Transaction Service Center Norfolk, MNCC’s hub for handling separations, retirements, and Reserve HR.

The introduction of this new addendum aligns with the DOD Instruction 1336.01 mandate, requiring implementation across all military branches by February 2025.

The overarching goal of MNCC is to provide comprehensive HR services throughout a Sailor’s career cycle. Continual feedback from Sailors informs improvements in service delivery. MNCC remains accessible via contact number (833) 330-MNCC (6622) or email at AskMNCC@navy.mil. Additional self-service options are available on MyNavy Portal at my.navy.mil.
