NAS Pensacola Participates in Annual Force Protection Exercise

Exercise Citadel Shield-Solid Curtain 2025 (CS-SC25) is currently underway at Navy installations across the continental United States, spanning from February 3 to February 14. This annual drill, directed by the Commander, Naval Installations Command (CNIC) and the U.S. Fleet Forces Command (USFFC), aims to reinforce training and readiness among Navy security personnel for various force protection scenarios.

Erich Brinkmeir, NAS Pensacola Installation Training Officer, emphasized the exercise’s significance, stating, “Our security personnel operate 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.” Although CS-SC25 is not a response to specific threats, it serves as a proactive measure to enhance preparedness against potential dangers.

Throughout the drill, NAS Pensacola’s ability to effectively spread information and execute response plans will be scrutinized. This includes coordination with local emergency responders and the broader community, ensuring a collaborative approach to security. “We’re committed to safeguarding life, equipment, and facilities,” Brinkmeir noted, highlighting the importance of realistic training scenarios.

The first week, led by CNIC, focuses on scenarios such as active shooter drills and hostage situations. These simulations are pivotal in assessing the readiness of NAS Pensacola Naval Security Forces and require seamless cooperation among various base entities. “Communication is critical,” Brinkmeir added, stressing the effort to protect personnel as they support vital training missions.

Transitioning into the second week, Solid Curtain will concentrate on the base’s Command and Control (C2) capabilities, evaluating the preparedness and effectiveness of the installation’s force protection protocols. Led by USFFC, this phase continues to ensure the synchronization and interoperability of commands and agency partners.

NAS Pensacola, known as the “Cradle of Naval Aviation,” is instrumental in supporting the operational and training missions of several tenant commands. These include the Naval Air Technical Training Center (NATTC), Naval Aviation Schools Command (NASC), and the Center for Naval Aviation Technical Training (CNATT), among others. Together, they uphold the mission of training the finest aviators and specialists in the world.
