LCS Training Facility Atlantic Renamed to SCSTC MAYPORT

In a strategic realignment, the Surface Combat Systems Training Command (SCSTC) LANT has been renamed SCSTC Mayport. This move acknowledges the growing needs of the Mayport, Florida area and its significance in future naval operations. “The name change reflects our mission of preparing warfighters for potential conflict with China and emphasizes the delivery of combat training across our surface fleet,” stated Capt. George A. Kessler, Jr., commodore of SCSTC.

SCSTC Mayport plays a critical role in training naval forces. As LCS-1 variant ships transition, the center will capitalize on existing resources to establish a comprehensive surface combat schoolhouse, similar to those in Hampton Roads and San Diego. Capt. Daniel A. Reiher, commanding officer at SCSTC Mayport, highlighted new offerings like Micro-Miniature (2M) Repair courses and expanded capabilities for training AEGIS combat systems and Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) tactics.

These enhancements are part of the Surface Training Advanced Virtual Environment – Combat Systems (STAVE-CS) initiative, which aims to elevate training efficiency and availability. Future courses, including AEGIS Tactical Action Officer, are set to become available through STAVE-CS advancements. “Preparedness for combat is paramount, and SCSTC Mayport supports this by providing essential tactical training to secure our nation and allies and uphold maritime freedom,” Kessler emphasized.

The SCSTC, headquartered in Dahlgren, Virginia, operates under the Naval Education and Training Command. Led by Rear Adm. Jeffrey Czerewko, SCSTC consists of 15 global sites and aims to train highly skilled warfighters. Annually, it serves over 37,000 U.S. Navy Sailors and 700 international sailors from 27 partner countries, bolstering naval defense capabilities worldwide.
