Gettysburg Holds At-Sea Change of Command Ceremony

Commander Hodges took command in February 2023, skillfully guiding the crew through an intensive workup phase before their September 23, 2024, deployment. The mission places them in the U.S. European and Central Command zones, acting as the Air and Missile Defense Commander for the Harry S. Truman Carrier Strike Group (HSTCSG).

“Leading this remarkable crew has been the privilege of a lifetime,” expressed Hodges. “These exceptional men and women embody the best of our Navy, and it has been an immense honor to serve alongside them.”

Lucas, now at the helm of the USS Gettysburg, arrives following a successful tenure with the Joint Staff, J7 Directorate. Recognized for his leadership, he eagerly assumes his new role.

“The crew’s resilience and attitude left a profound impact on me,” Lucas commented. “I am motivated, honored, and humbled to be your commanding officer.”

The USS Gettysburg, commissioned on June 22, 1991, is stationed at its homeport in Norfolk, Virginia.
