Dynamic Triumphs with Landmark Tenth Undocking Evolution
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The historic Navy floating dry-dock, Dynamic (AFDL-6), achieved a notable feat by undocking two 30-foot port operations workboats at Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek in Virginia Beach. This event on November 26, 2024, is hailed as a milestone for the crew under the command of Cmdr. Johnny Stevenson. His leadership has been key in executing operations that conserve both time and financial resources for the Navy.
The rare dual undocking, last accomplished in September 2021, underscores the vessel’s ongoing role in ensuring fleet readiness. Despite having an all-new crew alongside a fresh commanding officer, Dynamic continues to underscore its legacy as the Navy’s second-oldest vessel.
“We had to submerge the dry-dock to a depth of 22 feet to make the undocking possible,” Cmdr. Stevenson explained. “This operation highlights our dedication to maintaining readiness and capability. I’m incredibly proud of our team’s efforts and the flawless execution displayed.”
Dynamic has completed ten docking evolutions since February 2024, shortly after its own significant maintenance period. This undocking operation is a testament to its ongoing importance in Navy logistics and fleet support, demonstrating the crew’s commitment and efficiency.
Stevenson emphasized, “Our personnel are our greatest assets. My aim is to harness their potential. Onboard Dynamic, each member, from the most seasoned officer to the junior Sailor, has my trust to perform exceptionally.”
Looking towards the future, Dynamic is poised for its upcoming missions. Cmdr. Stevenson and his dedicated crew are prepared to face any arising challenges in service to the fleet and the nation.
