CIWT staffer elected to Council on Occupational Education Hall of Fame

PENSACOLA, Fla. – Denise Myers, a veteran in educational program management, has been honored for her extensive contributions to occupational education. Myers, who boasts nearly 45 years of service in education and training as a government civilian, was inducted into the Council on Occupational Education’s Hall of Fame. The Liaison Hall of Fame Award, presented to her at COE’s annual meeting in Atlanta, marks the first time this honor has been given.

Myers joined the Center for Information Warfare Training (CIWT) at Corry Station, Naval Air Station Pensacola, in 1992. She has played a pivotal role as an accreditation liaison official since 2003 and upholds standards in collaboration with both COE and the American Council on Education. Her dedication has been pivotal in maintaining CIWT’s standing as an accredited institution, benefiting service members’ education and career growth.

Hall of Fame awardees like Myers are recognized for their significant impact on occupational education, displaying leadership and dedication to student success. Eligibility for the honor requires at least five years in a liaison position and affiliation with an institution that has been COE-accredited for over a decade; Myer’s institution, CIWT, nears its 50th anniversary next year.

Throughout her tenure, Myers has guided CIWT through three Reaffirmation of Accreditation processes, with another scheduled for next September. Her leadership is integral, supporting the Naval Education and Training Command in accreditation standards. Known for her expertise, she has been an invaluable mentor and advisor.

Capt. Sarah Sherwood, CIWT commanding officer, affirmed Myers’ vital role. “Her attention to detail, knowledge, and leadership skills have driven our successful accreditation processes,” Sherwood said. Myers’ skills make her a respected expert in institutional accreditation. She was distinguished with commendations during the 2019 accreditation visit for her exceptional contributions.

Beyond her role, Myers crafted resources such as the CIWT American Council on Education Resource Guide and an Educational Course Catalog to streamline course evaluations and degree recommendations. “Being recognized by COE validates the time and expertise required to maintain our institution’s accreditation,” Myers remarked, emphasizing her commitment to providing servicemembers with top-tier training and education.

Myers’ career is marked by numerous accolades from NETC, CIWT, and civilian agencies. Her efforts bolster the CIWT and NETC Force Development mission, and her work ensures the sustained excellence of CIWT’s accreditation. The Council on Occupational Education, established in 1971, aims to enhance occupational education quality and is recognized by the Department of Education for promoting integrity and continual improvement.

CIWT, comprising multiple commands and training sites across the U.S. and Japan, serves over 26,000 students annually, preparing information warfare professionals for the Navy and joint services. It provides extensive courses in cryptology, information systems, electronics, and intelligence for both specialists and officers.
