Carl Vinson Carrier Strike Group Sets Sail from Thailand: A Strategic Departure
The U.S. has nurtured nearly two centuries of diplomatic ties with Thailand, making it one of its oldest allies in the Indo-Pacific region. This alliance ranks as one of the five foundational treaty partnerships for the U.S. in the region, cementing Thailand’s role as a key security ally and leader in Southeast Asia.
“We are incredibly grateful to Thailand for hosting the Carrier Strike Group ONE team,” stated Rear Adm. Michael Wosje, commander of the group. The admiral emphasized that such visits underscore the significance of the U.S.-Thailand alliance. This partnership is crucial for fostering peace, stability, and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific area, grounded in shared history, interests, and values.
The U.S. is resolute in its commitment to Thailand, furthering military collaborations and enhancing coordination with the Royal Thai Armed Forces to boost regional security and stability in the Indo-Pacific arena.
“Thank you, Rear Admiral Michael Wosje and the crew of the USS Carl Vinson, for your visit to Thailand! Your presence reinforces the strong relationship between our nations and our joint commitment to a free and open Indo-Pacific,” commented U.S. Ambassador to Thailand, Robert F. Godec.
During the port call, nearly 7,500 Sailors from Carrier Strike Group ONE engaged in cultural exchanges and community events to bolster understanding and cooperation with the host nation.
“Laem Chabang and Pattaya City have shown immense kindness and hospitality to our Sailors,” said Capt. Matthew Thomas, commanding officer of the USS Carl Vinson. The visit provided an opportunity for crew rest and readiness as they prepare for their next mission in ensuring regional freedom and openness.
The Carl Vinson Carrier Strike Group features multiple vessels, including the USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70), Destroyer Squadron One, and Carrier Air Wing Two, among others. The group operates throughout the U.S. 7th Fleet area, the Navy’s largest forward-deployed fleet, which actively collaborates with regional allies for maintaining peace in the Indo-Pacific.
